Educational Questions, Year 2000

PRE 9/11 CLASSROOM THINKING

A graphic that records the kinds of questions foremost on our minds as we introduced computers into the curriculum.
This second graph compiled information that was published at the millennium from which I projected my students’ work careers. Populations are projected to drop in all developed countries except the US. Workforce populations in developing countries are projected to skyrocket. By 2020 computers will have the intelligence of a small mammal. By 2030, a monkey, and by 2040 4th generation machines will be able to make complex individual medical and financial decisions.

At the time I presented this material, a single question came up. Did I suppose that by 2030, would desktop publishing still be around?
