Art Meets Agriculture at EnergyXchange

EnergyXchange in Burnsville, NC sits on top of a waste dump in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Since 2001, artists’ studios have been powered by methane from the dump.

Aquaponics and greenhouses are also on site. Solar panels create power fed back to the grid.

A ceramicists’ wood kiln is fired by unused wooden palettes.

Without imagination and intervention, this site would be another fuck up of the region’s resources.
