I am called upon as a trusted adviser, mediator, facilitator, designer and coordinator in health issues, youth development, cultural training, community organization, community-based research, and partnerships between communities and higher education. I work through communities and organizations to help each navigate the other’s world and implement joint projects and programs.

Notable Recent Projects
• Mobile Oasis Farmers Market (2017). Negotiations with Guilford County Health and Human Services and coordination with Guilford College to arrange for Guilford’s Bonner Center to execute the final year of USDA FMPP grant.
• Local FoodStorm (2017). Gathering of food activists, food systems people, students and youth from area colleges and universities to address food security and sovereignty.
• Bhutanese Health and Wellness Project (2015 – present). Community engagement, trust-building and training activities that lay the foundation for the community-based participatory research team.
• Rally against police shooting death of a refugee (2016). Working with Beloved Community Center, Southeast Asian Coalition and Asian youth to protest the shooting death of a mentally ill Amerasian.
• Health Fair (Apr 2016). Page High School gymnasium. Greensboro, NC. Challenged by their community elders, Montagnard college students and others organized a large-scale, culturally framed event complete with information services, interpreters for all five indigenous languages, and health providers, including Vietnamese- and US trained professionals from their own community, to better understand existing conditions, chronic diseases, and health prescriptions.
• National Folk Festival (2015). Consultation with Greensboro Historical Museum and refugee youth to feature "Meet the Montagnards”, a two-day program of events held throughout the museum, grounds and at main stages.
• International Advisory Committee (2015–16). With other activists (CNNC, American Friends Service Committee, immigrant communities) to ensure the full representation of refugees and immigrants on the City of Greensboro’s committee.
• Legal support for a refugee family (2014–15). With community partners to reunite a family accused of approving underage marriage and facing deportation, including the development of a court-approved syllabus for the acculturation of Jarai parents.
• Welcoming Greensboro Initiative (2014). With AFSC, NC Unite and newcomer organizations to help pass City of Greensboro resolution.
• Greensboro International Soccer League of the Triad (2011–13). Technical assistance to refugees and immigrants organizing a league dedicated to community bridge-building and mutual understanding.
• Council of Cultures (2011–12). Technical and organizational assistance to the formation of a refugee and immigrant round table meeting under FaithAction International House, Greenbsoro NC. Direct work contacting representatives from refugee and immigrant organizations.
• Montagnard Health Disparities Research Network (2011–present). Creation of a consortium of community elders, youth, women and health professionals from the community joined by researchers from five area colleges and universities.
• Montagnard Health meeting (2011). In collaboration with Center for New North Carolinians, NC A&T, Montagnard Dega Association, United Montagnard Christian Church, organized first-ever meeting of Montagnard refugee physicians, US-trained Montagnard health professionals, US physicians, and university researchers at Greensboro Area Health Education Center, Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, NC.
• United Dashain Festival (2011). Co-wrote a grant to the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro for the Bhutanese and Nepali communities for a first-ever celebration of the most important shared holiday in the Triad. Helped organize activities promoting conflict resolution between communities including a soccer tournament.
• Montagnard Women's Lay Community Health Team (2010–2013). A collaborative effort I proposed with UNCG's Project Shine and academic researchers in which I trained a preliterate health team to undertake research interviews in Montagnard neighborhoods, deliver health information and function as an on-going presence in this hard-to-reach community.
• with Betsy Renfrew: Backstrap Weavers (2010–2016). Promotion, preservation and documentation of Montagnard and other refugee groups' traditional weaving practices; acculturation and empowerment of women. (Funded by the United Arts Council and NC Arts Council.)
• DMA-Dega, a UNCSA Refugee Collaboration Project (2011). Provided cultural background, facilitated media students' access to Montagnard community members in order to create film stories about the refugee experience in NC.
• Census Campaign (2010). A project connecting technology with refugee translators to help empower the unrecognized and underserved Montagnard population. Funded by a grant from Southern Coalition for Social Justice.
• Design, Art Technology Symposium (2010). Proposed the October 2010 food theme held in Winston-Salem, NC to attract broader participation, new partners and funding sources.
• DATS MashUp (2010). Brought together refugee cooks and American chefs to create fusion dishes at the Design, Arts Technology Symposium.
• Surgical Technology Skills Builder (2009 – 2010). A serious game created for Guilford Technical Community College through the Piedmont Triad Partnership. Assembled a team of 11 educators involved in game design and related technologies to test the Triad’s ability to support high tech initiatives, bridge institutional cultures and teach collaborative practices, with results presented to Center for Design Innovation and Triangle Game Conference.

Fall 2012–Spring 2017.
Trained and oversaw over a dozen student-led teams at Bonner Center service sites located through Greensboro and High Point, NC. Sites were partnerships with veterans' housing, temporary housing for families, after-school arts and enrichment, special school for new immigrant children, after-school tutoring and mentoring youth at Latino, refugee and immigrant apartment complexes. Delivered customized cultural competency, anti-racism, social justice training for students in professional courses. Assisted students in the creation of an independent mobile market to deliver food to refugees suffering from malnutrition; facilitated negotiations to bring Guilford County USDA-funded mobile farmers market $50k subcontract to Bonner Center. Assisted grassroots organizations to obtain community grants. Added grassroots refugee organizations such as Montagnard Women's Learning Group and Society of Bhutanese as service sites, also community-based health center in Cottage Grove, an African American neighborhood. Mentored first Guilford Bio majors to undertake IRB research, mentored and advised students representing the “New Diversity", Montagnard, Afghani, Bhutanese, Togolese, Sudanese, etc. Introduced Guilford students to ongoing CBR and CBPR research projects of which I am a member, consultant or community advocate, including Montagnard Hypertension (UNCG, NCAT, Bonner), Montagnard Ethnobotany (Elon, Bonner), Montagnard Urban Farming (NCAT, Bonner), Bhutanese Health and Wellness (UNCG, Bonner) and Refugee Housing (Guilford), Allies in Community Outreach, Research and Engagement (Guilford, NCAT). Mentored student presentations, talks, panel discussions and workshops at Triangle Global Health Conference, Minority Health Conference, Campus Compact CSNAP Conference, Gulf-South Summit Conference, BigSURS, SNCURCS, Bonner SLI Conference and other events.
