What we’re doing
This is a learning project for educators and other participants to gain hands-on experience. We are forming a core group of educators and professionals from the 12-county Triad area to carry out research, design and preliminary execution of an interactive media / serious game project.

Okay, we’re assuming you understand what we mean by interactive media / serious game. For clarification, see below links.

Project themes and proposals are being solicited from area nonprofits (see below link).

Success depends on us rallying our region’s nascent talents, reaching out to professionals and individuals involved in associated or related technologies and trends and crossing specializations and organizations’ natural boundaries and limits. Why? Because unlike the Triangle, we do not have a concentration of high-tech industries and workers. Before we look outside the region for collaborators and consultants, we want to connect to those within the Triad. If you’re a student, first see if your school or college has a connection with PTP already, possibly with instructors who’ve committed to join our core team.

Who’s behind this?
Piedmont Triad Partnership (PTP) is an education-industry initiative funded by the Department of Labor. It has released a call for proposals (link) from nonprofits to create an interactive media / serious game project with a closing date of June 5, 2009.

What’s the commitment?
The core team is charged with carrying the project to its end date, December 2009. By project’s end, we’ll judge success by the relationships we’ve built, the connections we will have helped make amongst many individuals and groups, and the experience we’ll have collectively shared. During this time we invite you to work and share.

Put in some time, work in small teams, help push the project forward. We imagine this project like a buoy. Swim our way, climb aboard, help some, and then go on your way. Or stay awhile. Credit-mentions to those who put in significant hours and can take lead positions. Possible compensation based on expertise. Let’s talk.

Why the flexibility? We’re encouraging professionals, students, and interested individuals to join in. Each has their own schedule and commitments. Rather than imposing standards that only a fraction could meet, we’re following a more “open door”, inclusive approach.

Timeframe
The project has formerly begun this month (May, 2009). It will end in December, 2009.
